  • Sourdough slices
  • 1 can 12 ounces tuna, drained
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper adjust to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons diced jalapeños
  • 1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • Pesto
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced avocado
  • Hot sauce

**Chipotle Aioli (optional):**

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons adobo paste
  • Chipotle peppers pureed into a paste for spiciness


  • Prepare the tuna filling: In a bowl, mash the tuna well. Add mayo, lemon juice, red onion, black pepper, salt, jalapeños, mustard, and cilantro. Mix well.
  • Make the chipotle sauce: Combine mayo, sour cream, lime juice, honey, black pepper, chili powder, adobo sauce, and chipotle pepper paste in a small bowl. Mix until smooth.
  • Heat a grill or panini press and spray with oil. Toast two slices of bread per sandwich until crispy and golden brown.
  • On one slice of bread, spread a layer of pesto, followed by avocado, tomato, and tuna. Spread chipotle mayo on the other slice of bread and close the sandwich.
  • Cut in half and enjoy with your favorite hot sauce.


  • For a mousse-like consistency, blend the tuna until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add hot sauce or red chili flakes for extra spiciness.
