Einspanner Vienna Latte

Posted on

Let’s whip up my new favorite coffee treat! I first tried it in LA about a year back at a place called Yeems Coffee, and later in NY at Ten Thousand Coffee. I fell in love with it! It’s not something you often find in cafes, so I figured out how to make it at home.

This chilled version of a classic hot Austrian coffee is bold, creamy, with just a hint of sweetness! Robust espresso sits beneath a layer of whipped cream, topped with a sprinkle of cocoa powder for that perfect sip. Trust me, it tastes as good as it looks!

Ingredients

  • 2 shots of espresso
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup of your preferred milk
  • Ice cubes
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

For the Whipped Cream:

  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract optional

Instructions

First, let’s make the whipped cream:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract if using. Use an electric whisk to beat until it thickens into whipped cream. Be careful not to over-whisk; you want it to be creamy, not too stiff.

Now, let’s put together the drink:

  • – Start by adding brown sugar to your taste into a shot glass.
  • – Brew two shots of espresso using your coffee machine directly into the glass with the sugar. Stir well to dissolve the sugar evenly.
  • – Fill a cup with ice and pour in your desired amount of milk.
  • – Place a dollop of whipped cream on top of the milk.
  • – Pour the espresso shots over the cream and milk.
  • – Add another spoonful of whipped cream over the espresso.
  • – Finish it off with a dusting of cocoa powder on top, and you’re ready to enjoy your homemade treat!
