Ingredients

  • 1 cup 8 oz Nutella or hazelnut spread
  • 1 cup melted butter salted preferred, but unsalted works too!
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs at room temperature
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Begin by lining a 12×8 inch baking pan with wax paper or parchment paper. Spread 8 oz of Nutella evenly in the pan, leaving about ¼ inch around the edges. Freeze for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, mix melted butter, oil, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture lightens in color (approximately 3 minutes). Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and lightly mix until just combined. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  • After freezing the Nutella for 30 minutes, remove it from the pan. Grease and line the 12×8 inch pan with parchment paper. Pour half of the batter into the pan, spreading it evenly. Place the frozen Nutella square on top and cover with the remaining batter, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the center no longer jiggles. For fudgy brownies, avoid overbaking. If you prefer a cakey texture, bake for an additional 5-8 minutes. Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into them and savoring the deliciousness!
