Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 lb. ground Italian sausage uncooked
  • 4 cloves garlic thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil plus extra for drizzling
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1.5 – 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves roughly chopped

Instructions

(Grill Method)

  • Preheat the grill to 450°F and place a 12-inch cast iron skillet on direct heat.
  • Roll out the pizza dough to fit the skillet.
  • Cook the Italian sausage in the skillet, then add garlic slices.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the dough and cook until golden.
  • Move skillet to indirect heat and assemble pizza.
  • Cover and cook for 20-30 minutes until dough is cooked through.
  • Let it rest, then top with fresh basil.

(Oven Method)

  • Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  • Roll out the pizza dough and cook the Italian sausage and garlic in a cast iron skillet.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the dough and cook until golden.
  • Assemble pizza and bake for around 10-15 minutes until crust is golden.
  • Let it rest, then top with fresh basil.
