Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 or lean)
- ½ small onion, finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup steak sauce (A1 or homemade)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp salt (more to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¼ cup beef broth or water (if needed for consistency)
- 4 burger buns, toasted
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (or Swiss, provolone, or American)
- 1 tbsp butter (optional, for buns)
- Toppings: pickles, lettuce, tomato, or crispy onions
Instructions
- Brown the Beef
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and crumbly, about 5 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add Onion & Garlic
- Toss in the onion and garlic and sauté until softened and fragrant, around 2–3 minutes.
- Stir in the Sauce
- Mix in ketchup, steak sauce, Worcestershire, Dijon, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until everything is well combined, then reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes. If it thickens too much, splash in a bit of beef broth or water.
- Toast the Buns
- For extra flavor, melt butter in a skillet and toast the buns until golden and crisp.
- Build the Sandwiches
- Spoon the beef mixture generously over each bun base. Lay a slice of cheese on top and let it melt into the hot filling. Add your favorite toppings—pickles, lettuce, tomato, or crispy onions—then cap it with the top bun.
- Serve & Enjoy
- Dig in right away, paired with fries, chips, or a crisp salad for the perfect meal.
Notes
- Swap beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter twist.
- Experiment with cheese—cheddar is classic, but provolone or Swiss adds a fun twist.
- A drizzle of hot sauce or crushed red pepper gives it a spicy kick.
- Want it truly steakhouse-worthy? Add a slice of crispy bacon on top.
