Description

Golden, crunchy, and filled with melty cheese goodness—these Tuna Melt Patties are everything you love about the classic tuna melt, but in patty form. Using simple pantry staples like canned tuna, breadcrumbs, and shredded cheese, you can whip up a satisfying meal in less than 20 minutes. Serve them tucked into a sandwich, on toasted English muffins, or paired with a crisp salad for an easy win on busy nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained very well
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (regular or panko)
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar (or Swiss, if preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Mix the base:
    • In a mixing bowl, add the tuna, breadcrumbs, mayo, egg, Dijon, and all the seasonings. Stir until the mixture is evenly combined.
  2. Add the flavor:
    • Fold in the shredded cheese and chopped green onions. Divide and shape into 4–5 patties, pressing gently to hold them together.
  3. Cook to golden perfection:
    • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until the outsides are crispy and browned while the insides stay tender and cheesy.
  4. Time to serve:
    • Enjoy them stacked on toast, sandwiched with your favorite toppings, or alongside a fresh green salad. For a gooier finish, add extra cheese on top and broil for a minute until melted.

Notes

  • Swap breadcrumbs for panko if you want maximum crunch.
  • If the mixture feels too wet, sprinkle in more breadcrumbs. Too dry? A spoonful of mayo will fix it.
  • Switch up the cheese! Swiss, mozzarella, or even Pepper Jack will give a fun flavor twist.
