Chocolate Orange Vegan Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup warm dairy-free milk warm, not hot
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2¼ tsp dry yeast
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp melted vegan butter
  • 1 cup vegan vanilla protein powder

For the Filling:

  • â…“ cup melted dairy-free butter
  • â…” cup melted dark chocolate orange flavor
  • 2 tbsp vegan chocolate protein powder
  • ½ tsp orange extract

For the Frosting:

  • 2 tbsp vegan cream cheese
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp orange extract
  • 1 tsp dairy-free milk add more if needed

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

  • Mix the warm dairy-free milk with half of the brown sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle in the dry yeast, give it a quick stir, and let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, protein powder, and the remaining brown sugar.
  • Add the yeast mixture and melted vegan butter to the dry ingredients. Mix well.
  • Knead the dough by hand or in a stand mixer for 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and no longer sticky.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Filling:

  • In a small bowl, combine the melted dairy-free butter, melted orange-flavored dark chocolate, vegan chocolate protein powder, and orange extract. Add more protein powder if needed to achieve a thick, spreadable consistency.

Assemble the Rolls:

  • Roll out the dough into a long rectangle.
  • Spread the chocolate orange filling evenly over the dough.
  • Roll the dough lengthwise into a log, then cut it into thick rolls.
  • Place the rolls in a prepared baking dish.

Let the Rolls Rise:

  • Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.

Bake the Rolls:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) while the rolls are rising.
  • Bake the rolls for 20-22 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Make the Frosting:

  • Mix together the vegan cream cheese, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, orange extract, and dairy-free milk. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.

Frost the Rolls:

  • Once the rolls are slightly cooled, spread the frosting on top while they are still warm.
