Cheese Heart Danishes

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets of frozen puff pastry thawed
  • 8 ounces of lite or regular cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Egg wash
  • 1 cup diced strawberries

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, mix softened cream cheese, egg yolk, sugar, and vanilla until well combined.
  • Roll out the thawed puff pastry and cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter.
  • Use a knife to score around the edges of each heart.
  • Place the hearts on the baking sheet and fill each one with the cream cheese filling, then top with diced strawberries.
  • Brush the edges with egg wash and bake for 23-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Dust with powdered sugar if desired and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Soften cream cheese for easier mixing.
  • You can mix the filling by hand if you don’t have an electric mixer.
  • Customize with your favorite fruits.
  • Use leftover pastry to make more hearts or cute cutouts.
  • Score the hearts before baking to keep the filling in place.
  • Add a sprinkle of powdered sugar after baking for extra sweetness.
