Gingerbread French Toast Sticks
Ingredients
- 1 loaf 1 lb of challah, brioche, or sourdough bread (day-old bread works best)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
- 1/8 tsp salt
- Unsalted butter for cooking
Instructions
- Cut the bread into sticks, each about 4 inches long and one inch wide.
- In a big bowl, whisk the eggs thoroughly. Add in the milk, cream, vanilla, maple syrup, molasses, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Keep whisking until it becomes a smooth mixture.
- Heat up your griddle over medium heat. Once it’s hot, add 1 tablespoon of butter to the griddle.
- Dip each stick into the egg mixture for about 5-6 seconds on each side. Then, transfer them to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown. Repeat this step with the rest of your French toast sticks.
- Serve these warm delights with a dusting of powdered sugar and/or a drizzle of maple syrup.
