Heat a 10 or 12-inch skillet (cast iron works great, but any large skillet will do) over medium heat.
Once the pan is hot, add olive oil, onion, and garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, then add the ground beef.
Cook the meat, breaking it up with your utensil, for about 5 minutes until it just starts to brown.
Add Italian seasoning, cumin, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.
Pour in the marinara sauce and water.
Break up the lasagna noodles and spread them over the beef mixture, ensuring they're covered with liquid.
Cover the pan and reduce heat to low-medium.
Cook for 23-25 minutes until the noodles are al dente.
In a bowl, mix together the cheeses.
Turn off the heat, uncover the skillet, and stir in the cheese mixture. Sprinkle extra Parmesan and mozzarella on top.
Broil for about 2 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
Finish with a sprinkle of chopped basil, if desired, and dig in!
